I have always wanted to be a writer, and sometimes I write articles, short stories, or op-eds. That’s not what I had in mind as a teenager when I dreamed of writing my own novel. Yet, I have not been able to write anything longer, and I don’t know if it’s in the cards for me. I might not be able to live up to my standards for what makes a book worth publishing. Who needs another mediocre book, I ask you? With influencers getting book contracts regardless of whether they can write, the rise of AI books, and all the ghostwriting I have done myself, for people who are clearly not writers, I have somewhat lost faith in the idea of writing a book myself. But—as Blondie sang—dreaming is free.
